It has been a busy time at Family Promise of Greater Wichita! Parents are seeking out stability for a new school year, and we are grateful to be a part of the lives of families in a homeless circumstance.

Our work together goes beyond hosting the families that you see in your congregations. If we don’t have space or a family does not qualify for our primary program (Phase II), we provide Support Services (Phase I) as we have resources. Here are some of the ways we were able to partner with families in the past week.

  • We helped two families who were homeless, with no idea what to do about school, get their children enrolled and transported to school in these important first days.
  • We made connections with school social workers and identified Family Promise as advocates for these families.
  • We connected with a young mom leaving a trafficking situation, made appropriate referrals and helped get her to and from an appointment for prenatal care.
  • A guest in Phase II of our program (Rotation Program for Hospitality/Lodging) has begun a “pay it forward” as part of earning a vehicle and helped us help the above young woman by providing transportation for her.
  • We coordinated and set up a connection with a residential rehab for a homeless mom of two toddlers, unable to pass our drug screen.
  • We provided 3 nights of emergency shelter.
  • We assisted multiple families with support services including food, blankets, pillows diapers, car seats and fuel.
  • A family with school- and toddler-aged kids used our washer and dryer and day shelter to regroup.

Your ongoing support with volunteer hours, advocacy, and financial contributions helps make this happen. Thank you!!
